Wisconsin Bicycle Routes

Bicycle Routes

This page lists a number of bicycle routes around Wisconsin. In many cases, we suggest alternative routes, where more than one route attractive for bicyclists exists. There are several reasons for this:

  • For the cyclist making a loop it allows a return by a different route.
  • Some routes may be fine at off-peak traffic times but difficult during rush hour.
  • A number of the bike trails are unpaved (usually with crushed limestone). We find these can be messy in wet weather.

Milwaukee-Chicago

This page has a link to a site describing in detail a route between Milwaukee and Chicago. We also describe some alternative routes, as well as a link to a route through northern Indiana to the Michigan state line. A large portion of these routes uses bike trails.

This route takes advantage of one new and one upgraded bike trail.

This page describes a route, with alternatives in a few cases, from Milwaukee to Door County.

A route through Cedarburg, West Bend, the northern Kettle Moraine, and connecting to Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, and the Fox Cities.

This route follows the Old Plank Road to Greenbush and then roads to Fond du Lac, connecting to two trails to the west.

Another route follows the Mississippi River south from Minneapolis, on the Minnesota and Iowa side.
