About ASA

MISSION

To increase academic achievement for every student in Milwaukee by recruiting and electing school board members who have the talent, focus and experience required to make our urban schools among the best in the nation.

OBJECTIVES

  1. In the April 2009 election, to offer Milwaukee voters the most highly qualified group of school board candidates in the city's history (click here for a map of the districts).
  2. To build a network of citizens who are invested in identifying, developing and electing strong school board candidates for future elections.

ONGOING PRIORITIES

  • Attract, develop and retain effective teachers and school leaders.
  • Ensure fiscally responsible spending that is clearly tied to increasing student achievement.
  • Create a climate in schools in which students and staff feel safe.
  • Continue to offer a rich array of options to students and parents.
  • Measure student outcomes for use in decision-making.
  • Reinforce responsibility among students and families.
  • Help students become productive, contributing citizens.
  • Use strong schools to build strong neighborhoods.
  • Maintain consistent vision over the long run.

STRATEGY

Between now and April 2009, ASA will operate in two phases through two separate organizations:

  1. Identify, recruit and develop a diverse pool of potential candidates. (The work of ASA-MKE.)
  2. Provide campaign support to interested candidates who best fit the target candidate profile. (The work of ASA-PAC)
